As we told you in our post last month, Tracie Martyn Skincare Secrets Part Two, Tracie Martyn’s skincare products are a longtime favorite among beauty editors and celebrities alike. Her New York City salon stays booked by an elite list of clients for premiere skincare treatments like her signature Resculpting Facials® while products like Tracie Martyn Amla Purifying Cleanser®, Tracie Martyn Enzyme Exfoliant®, Tracie Martyn Absolute Purity™ Toner and Tracie Martyn Firming Serum™ stay in high demand.
What sets Tracie Martyn’s skincare line apart from the rest? We think it’s her commitment to using natural ingredients and her inside-out approach to beautiful skin. According to Martyn, the key to great-looking skin is a combination of great skin care, facials (she recommends at least bi-monthly), great nutrition, exercise, relaxation/meditation, a good night sleep and a great outlook on life. Here are some of her tips that we found:
1. Avoid refined/processed sugars.
“Refined sugar is bad for your health and bad for your skin,” she says. “I substitute manuka honey from New Zealand, which is delicious and aromatic.”
2. Munch on pine nuts between meals to curb your appetite.
In addition to being rich in essential vitamins, amino acids and proteins, Martyn says pine nuts help to satiate hunger and maintain energy levels.
3. Eat lots of antioxidant rich foods like berries, pomegranates and persimmons that are also high in dietary fiber.
4. Get plenty of beauty rest.
Most health experts agree adults need anywhere between 7-8 hours of sleep each night (sometimes more). Martyn says she feels most beautiful when she is happy and rested. “I think all of us exude a natural beauty in that state…..and this is all backed by science as well: endorphins are rejuvenating, and happiness lets your inner beauty shine.”
5. You are what you eat.
Opt for organic foods and avoid processed, greasy foods, along with excess sodium like soy sauce and foods with added salt.
6. Take supplements.
Tracie Martyn’s organic diet is supplemented with black-currant oil, acetylcarnitine and silica capsules. “When used topically and ingested in gel-cap form, the black-currant oil can help keep skin hydrated. It’s also an anti-inflammatory.” She uses acetylcarnitine to promote fat burning and weight loss, and silica to encourage healthy nails, skin and hair.
7. You are what you drink.
Martyn says to drink plenty of pure water, include a good source of protein, and drink green juices. She enjoys sipping Tulsi tea to sooth and relax and says it helps reduce inflammation associated with aging and disease.
As a certified yoga instructor, Martyn says a calm clear mind is best for achieving beauty and therefore recommends doing some form of relaxation/meditation on a daily basis.
9. Use natural skincare products.
Look for products containing only safe, natural and non-irritating ingredients. Martyn says to avoid harsh industrial chemicals and petrochemicals in cosmetics at all costs because they may not only block your pores, but pose a threat to your health.
10. Embrace the power of aromatherapy.
Most Tracie Martyn® products have an amazing aromatherapy effect that affects the senses and calms the mind which can make a difference for your skin. For instance, the essential oil in the Amla Purifying Cleanser helps to regulate sebum production so that you do not break out. As an added bonus, you cannot help but feel happy and refreshed when you wash your face with that fresh green scent coming from the lime, spearmint and fragrant herbs.
